So very sad. Everyone has stated so eloquently what kind of person he was. I think anyone that met him, in person or not, felt an Instant kinship with him. What a rare, exotic gift he had. The stories are heartwarming. I have. Couple to share.

We had pm'd and exchanged phone #'s. the first time we spoke he said he was pretty sure he knew me although we had never met. He was right. He figured it out because of a couple of thigs I posted about people he knew well. He confirmed with them and said he felt oddly protective of me. He told me a funny story about my mom, whom he met through some arts foundation. He described her as a " rather constipated woman". Spot on.I laughed so hard. I had been learning to bake from Maida Heatter (also an old friend of his!) and I took a picture of my first cake and sent it to him. Behind it was a piece of art given to me by my mom. He knew the piece well and filled in some provenance for me. We talked more about art and I told him of a Warhol I bought as a teenager that Fred Hughs refused to authenticate, even though they try to buy it back every year. He got on the phone with Fred and ripped him a new one. It is now authenticated. When we talked more, we realized we were in the same place a few times and missed each other by minutes. He said we had been in the same orbit at different speeds. That made me smile. He told me "it's not really six degrees of separation, it's one or two.it just depends on to whoM the first phone call is made."

Tush and PB, how fantastic for you to have all met. I am green. Loved to story of the Chihuly visit. I have a Chihuly bong that he made while at Venini and Charles made me promise that if ever he was near by and could visit that we'd blow a bowl. I got an email from him on the 13th telling me to fire up the bong and have one for him. Now understand what he meant.

That is so perfectly Charles. Y U M!

Thank you for that. It made me laugh out loud. For a long time.

I can't believe this. So very sad.

But I'm very grateful to know.

RIP, FK.

I've been less sad over actual relations. This is rather terrible, and FK, wherever you are, I wish you great ripostes. I know you are filled with them.

FK and I figured out that we crossed paths some in San Francisco in the early 80s when I was a naive college student and he sold me my tickets for the Nob Hill Cinema. He also seems to have known the first Mr. EW back in the 60s and we chatted some on PM about various strange connections we had over the years. While I didn't have a chance to meet him this go-round, I cannot help but think that we're all here at Qwhip for a reason.

Perhaps the Qwhipsters should not be sad.

Perhaps the Qwhipsters should DANCE and SING.

Troll did not interact much with FK, but FK seemed like someone who would appreciate dancing and singing more than sadness.

He posted all kinds of kooky stuff on my facebook wall, much slightly inappropriate but this was his last post earlier in the month:

these are from the Boston Museum of Fine arts. Quirky like him. He wanted to show them to me the next time I would visit. . . . I'll plan to do so later this year

He would also always post things directly to my wall on Facebook, never a message. most were like this:

saw "Moonrise Kingdom" today and thought of thee...
The ending credits are very cute
Benjamin Britten - the young person's guide to the orchestra.
A quirky and lovely tale, according to me

or this:

oy
on line
seemingly endless
What day is today?

I wonder what my students' parents thought about that but I didn't really care, his intentions were always completely benign.

Last night, being a Blue Moon and all, I naturally thought of him.

Happy Birthday, Chuckles.

Saw this and immediately thought of you:
